Türkiye'nin Avrupa Birliği ile üyelik müzakereleri 35 fasıl üzerinden resmen açıldı. 16 fasıl açıldı, yalnızca biri kapatıldı; süreç 2016 sonrası fiilen donduruldu. Yine de bu dönem AKP'nin liberal reform yıllarına denk geldi ve önemli yargı, demokrasi ve insan hakları reformlarına yön verdi.

Turkey's EU accession negotiations were formally opened across 35 chapters. Sixteen chapters were opened, only one was closed; the process effectively froze after 2016. The period nevertheless coincided with the AKP's liberal-reform years and shaped major judicial, democratic and human-rights changes.
